Jaras is the Spanish common name for rock roses, hardy shrubs native to the Mediterranean region. Pink or white flowering, with or without spots, they’re a gorgeous sight in the country side in Spring. 

I love giving overlooked native plants their moment in the spotlight, and this design is my way of highlighting the beauty that often hides in plain sight. It’s not a strict botanical illustration, far from it. Instead, it’s my interpretation of the rockrose’s energy: fun, colourful, a little wild, and full of movement.

Drawn from the plants growing around my farm, this pattern is part of an ongoing exploration of native flora through playful shapes and vibrant colours.
